The Stapleton neighborhood exists in the location where Denver's main airport used to reside. When Denver International Airport opened, the land at Stapleton became available for redevelopment. When it was decided that the Stapleton area would be transformed into a new Denver community, planners and developers decided that it should be designed in a "New Urbanist" fashion.
In the case of Stapleton, "New Urbanist" means that most houses feature a front porch and garages that are accessible from an alley. Homes have smaller lots but public places such as parks are large, stores and shops are within walking distance of most homes, and office buildings are close by - helping to reduce the need to drive to work.
As of 2007, homes for sale in Stapleton are both pre-owned and brand new. The community is not completely developed and will continue to emerge for the next few decades. There is an abundance of additional information about Stapleton on the community's official website.
