History of Cherry Hills Village

Cherry Hills Village, in Arapahoe County, was founded in 1945 and before city services were instituted some of the residents volunteered for positions as treasurer, marshal, town attorney and judge. Early on, the town founders put an emphasis on preserving the spacious grounds surrounding the residences and the rural character of the town. After
Incorporation they established ordinances and zoning regulations limiting growth and development.   The town’s first zoning map was created in 1945, and a Master Plan for land use was set up in 1950. This Master Plan set aside a Community Center District with restrictions on commercial growth.

The town population grew from 750 residents in 1950 to over 4,000 in 1970 and now has a population of over 6000. Since 1966, Cherry Hills Village has been governed by home rule.

Because of the early, thoughtful planning and continued stress on strict zoning regulations, Cherry Hills Village retains its peaceful, rural aspect.
