HISTORY

One of the first American explorers to come into the northern Colorado area was Major Stephen Long of the Army. Long's Peak, the most prominent mountain in northern Colorado, was named after the Major, and the town of Longmont was eventually named after him as well.

The town of Longmont got off to an unusual start, with men from Chicago deciding to settle in the area. They sold memberships to their town and used the proceeds to buy land for their Chicago-Colorado Colony. They named the town Longmont in honor of the clearly visible Long's Peak above the town. Large irrigation ditches were created and Longmont became a promising farming community.

People came from all over America and Mexico, Europe and Asia to be a part of the Longmont community, mostly attracted by the rich lands of the area. The population was doubling every ten years until the 1920 census, with WWI having taken a toll on the young men of the community. The names of Longmont's fallen were recorded on a flagpole which still stands in Roosevelt Park.

The KKK gained control over the city in the 1925 election and were voted back out of office two years later. A damming project started by the Klan was abandoned as unfeasible and the foundations of the dam can still be seen in the St. Vrain River.

THE TOWN TODAY

Over the years, Longmont has kept up with the trends of technology, constructing a dam and improving the town so that it was ready when IBM showed up in 1965. The town exploded, leaving behind its agricultural roots almost completely. Today, the town is still booming with many of its citizens employed in technological fields instead of sugar beet fields.

Once you are satisfied with your inspection report and the details of the home, you can move onto the mortgage portion of the process.
